Accessibility training – knowledge that remains within the organisation. Even if the software works.

Tools address symptoms. Knowledge addresses causes. A developer who understands why an ARIA role is set will not introduce the next barrier in the first place. An editor who knows how alt text really works will produce accessible content right from the start. This is exactly where Access Academy comes in: Practical training courses on digital accessibility — for organisations wishing to build in-house expertise, and for individual professionals seeking to demonstrate their expertise. Each participant receives a verifiable certificate upon completion.

ACCESS ACADEMY® IN THE ECOSYSTEM

Where knowledge meets practice – the Academy within the Access ecosystem

Access Academy® stands on its own — as a standalone training programme for businesses and individual professionals. Within the IFDB ecosystem, however, it demonstrates a particular strength: it fills precisely those knowledge gaps that other products highlight.

Access Academy®

picks up exactly where the audit report identifies gaps. After all, the audit doesn’t just identify what’s wrong — it highlights which department is lacking what knowledge. Access Academy provides tailor-made training courses for developers, UX teams, marketing and legal departments as a natural upsell arising from the audit.

Access Guard®

maintains this standard. Every time the website is updated, new barriers may arise – our monitoring system detects them before they become a problem.

Access Doc®

automates PDF conversion — but anyone who regularly creates accessible documents themselves will benefit from the relevant expertise. Access Academy® offers dedicated training courses on creating accessible documents in Word, PowerPoint and PDF.

Designed for anyone who doesn’t want to delegate accessibility, but wants to understand it

  • Companies wishing to build up in-house expertise,
rather than outsourcing every adjustment. With trained teams, both reliance on service providers and long-term costs are reduced in equal measure.
  • Development and design teams,
want to consider accessibility right from the start — rather than laboriously adapting it at the end of the project. Once you understand the principles, you’ll build accessible designs without even thinking about it.
  • Individual professionals and freelancers,
who want to demonstrate their expertise in digital accessibility — with a verifiable certificate that they can include on their CV and LinkedIn profile.
  • Marketing, editorial and legal teams,
who are responsible for digital content on a daily basis and need to understand the specific requirements that the BFSG places on their work.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about
Access Academy®

For organisations wishing to provide targeted training for their teams, and for individual professionals who wish to expand and demonstrate their knowledge of digital accessibility. The content is structured to cater for both beginners and experienced professionals.

2. What is the difference between in-house training and a learning platform?

In-house training is a bespoke workshop that takes place in person and is tailored to your systems, industry and level of knowledge. The learning platform is a SaaS application with its own login, where participants can learn at their own pace and have their progress tracked automatically.

Yes. Upon completion of a training course, every participant receives a verifiable certificate — regardless of whether the course was completed as an in-house workshop or via the learning platform.

The content ranges from the fundamentals of WCAG 2.2, through the legal requirements of the BFSG and EN 301 549, to role-specific topics: accessible development, accessible design, accessible content and documents, as well as the legal framework for compliance teams.

Yes. For in-house training courses, we customise examples, key topics and exercises to suit your sector, your systems and your specific needs. We deliberately avoid delivering standard content that has no bearing on your actual situation.

Participants are given a personal login and work through the learning modules at their own pace. Progress is automatically saved, completed modules are recorded, and a certificate is awarded upon completion. This enables knowledge to be built up on a scalable basis, even within distributed teams.

No. Access Academy® is a standalone programme and can be booked separately. However, when combined with Access Ready®, the Academy is particularly effective, as the audit identifies specific training needs.

Our content is based on the current versions of WCAG 2.2, BFSG and EN 301 549 and is updated on an ongoing basis. As our trainers have practical experience of conducting audits on a daily basis, their real-world experiences are incorporated directly into the training courses.

Yes. We deliberately tailor our content to different roles. Developers receive in-depth technical content, whilst marketing, editorial and legal teams receive practical, easy-to-understand training without unnecessary technical terminology.

Build up knowledge
that will last.

Tools and audits are important. But sustainable accessibility starts with people who understand what they’re doing. Talk to us about how Access Academy® can build expertise within your team — or get started yourself on our learning platform.

Learning about accessibility – why in-depth training is more than just a certificate

Digital accessibility is not merely a matter of compliance, but a skill that needs to be learnt and applied in day-to-day work. The W3C’s ‘Fundamentals of Digital Accessibility’ provides a freely accessible introduction to the key principles, whilst the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines define the technical framework that any sound training programme must be based on. Those who truly internalise these fundamentals can identify barriers right from the design stage — long before they become a problem.

Access Academy® builds on precisely this foundation and translates it into practical, applicable knowledge for your teams. If you also want to identify specific areas of improvement, the IFDB in-depth audit provides the ideal assessment. And if you want to ensure that the knowledge gained has a lasting impact, you can supplement the training with continuous accessibility monitoring — for accessibility that is not just taught, but put into practice.
