Current status assessment

Any robust planning process begins with an assessment. The automated checker assesses your website against WCAG 2.2, identifies keyboard traps and structural errors – including those in the Shadow DOM – and translates the results into a score that management can understand. Critical exclusion criteria immediately cap the score – ensuring that a falsified score never arises in the first place.

Access Read®:
Check PDF files for accessibility

The focus is on websites; documents are where the gaps lie. The PDF/UA and ISO 14289-1 compliance check assesses the tags, structure and reading order of your PDF files, identifies each issue with its severity level and reference to the standard in accordance with EN 301 549, and displays a preview of the affected page. You can get started anonymously, without an account or a credit card.

Between the findings and compliance lies manual work – provided you carry it out yourself. Automated processing converts forms, reports and data sheets into a PDF/UA-compliant format: tagged, structured and with properly maintained alternative text. Every document emerges from the process with a compliance report that you can submit to a verifier.

Audit with evidential value

Automated tests cover some of the success criteria; the rest can only be assessed by a human. In the in-depth audit, users of assistive technologies navigate your application using a screen reader and keyboard. The outcome is the IFDB certificate, which serves as robust BFSG-compliant evidence – the basis for tenders, corporate approvals and external communications.

Access Declare®:
Create an accessibility statement

The accessibility statement is the most visible proof of your compliance – and the one most often overlooked. It is generated automatically from a comprehensive website scan, structured in accordance with the requirements of the BFSG, BITV 2.0 and WCAG 2.2, and output in HTML, PDF and DOCX formats. Public bodies receive the BITV supplement, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

Accessibility is not a static state, but a process. Every deployment and every editorial update can compromise it. The monitoring system crawls as and when required immediately after a release, reports any relapses via Jira, Slack or MS Teams, and provides the development team with the appropriate code suggestion. This turns a finding into a ticket rather than a discussion.

Access Protect®:
contractual protection

Anyone who has demonstrated compliance with the BFSG will also want to be able to defend that compliance. In the event of warnings or legal action, IFDB experts and partner law firms will handle the case – as guaranteed by contract, not as a gesture of goodwill. A valid Ready certificate and active monitoring are prerequisites: without a robust testing framework, no protection can be provided.

Access Academy®:
Embedding within the team

Software checks, people decide. The training equips development, UX, editorial and legal teams to fulfil their respective responsibilities – from semantic markup and alternative text to legal classification. Participants receive a verifiable certificate, whilst teams also receive documented proof of training to fulfil their organisational duty of care.

Access Contrast®:
Check colours for contrast

Contrast errors arise during the design phase and prove costly during the audit. Rather than checking individual colour pairs, the Contrast Checker assesses entire palettes, screenshots and live pages against the WCAG thresholds, simulates colour vision deficiencies and provides a compliant correction suggestion for each pair. The result is exported from the tool as a design token and is integrated directly into the design system.

The investment framework for digital accessibility is not based on a flat rate, but on the actual state of your online services. The free initial analysis assesses your website against WCAG 2.2 and identifies which requirements are already met and which measures should be prioritised. Frequently asked questions about digital accessibility and pricing

Access Score® checks your website free of charge. Access Read® checks PDF documents free of charge and anonymously. Access Declare® generates the accessibility statement for smaller private-sector businesses free of charge. Similarly, individual checks using the Access Contrast® online tool are free of charge.

That depends on the initial situation. The analysis is free of charge; ongoing monitoring starts at €29 per month. We quote for an in-depth audit based on the scope of work. That is why we always start with a free assessment.

Nothing for sole traders, SMEs and smaller private-sector websites — a domain with up to 150 pages remains free of charge indefinitely. Public sector organisations also require the BITV 2.0 add-on, as well as a continuously updated version. This upgrade costs €9 per month or €90 per year. Individual terms and conditions apply for eleven or more domains.

The review using Access Read® is free of charge. Conversion using Access Doc® costs €4.00 per page without a subscription. With a subscription, the price per page drops to as low as €2.00.

The annual fee is equivalent to ten monthly instalments. This means you save two months’ payments.

No. An overlay alters the way the page is displayed in the browser, not the underlying code. However, it is the code that is checked. An overlay therefore enhances the user experience but does not replace an accessible implementation.

Who is required to implement digital accessibility – and to what extent?

Since the Accessibility Enhancement Act came into force, private-sector providers have been subject to the same standards that have long been established in the public sector. Our overview of the obligations under the Accessibility Enhancement Act summarises which services are specifically covered and which transition periods apply. The technical assessment criteria are provided by the success criteria set out in WCAG 2.2, harmonised across Europe by the EN 301 549 standard. The binding legal text is published by the Federal Ministry of Justice in the official full text of the BFSG.

This does not cover just the website. The scope also includes documents that you make available for download – forms, data sheets and reports are among the most common gaps and can be addressed through PDF/UA conversion. The process is formally concluded with the accessibility statement, which provides clear documentation of your progress in implementing accessibility.
